Books & Videos!!!

Not only have we acquired a collection of books, we also have an electronic Card Catalogue. We're always looking for new ideas and ways to present our collection, especially if you would like to be part of the digital revolution. Please e-mail your comments and your desire to join us in keeping up the Parish Library. Lois Shellworth is the librarian.

Introduction

Through the generosity of our parishioners, we have been able to start a collection of books and videos. Many of the books in our library have been used in our discussion groups; most of the videos have been used in our Religious Education programs.

We have both a title and author catalogue for you to browse through. In addition, we've tried to determine the age-suitability for each item, especially important for the videos which we've found that kids just love to watch. We encourage you to write a review of any book or video you may borrow and e-mail it; we'll put in our database and it will become part of our Card Catalogues.

We want our parishioners to use our collection. Some of it is housed in the Library in our Parish Center; it's open most Sunday mornings. Please help yourself. Just remove the card from the front pocket, print your name on it, and leave it in the box provided. Also, feel free to e-mail our Director of Religious Education who will meet you at the library at a mutually agreed upon time.

We ask that you be considerate of your fellow parishioners and return books within 3 weeks, Religious Ed videos with a week. Our collection is growing. So come back and visit us often; we might have added what you are looking for. Finally, regarding our children's videos, unfortunately we haven't been able to catalogue them as of yet. (Perhaps you might want to help?) So they're not quite ready to be loaned out. Just as soon as that is done, we'll let everyone know who expressed an interest in borrowing them.

• Remember, our Card Catalogue is housed in a genuine, full-fledged database, so the buttons will be a little different. We have tried to make it simple for you to use. Here are a couple of pointers to remember:


• You always start out in a Table View in either the title or author card catalogue. It presents up to 25 items in a table, with columns containing title, author, subject, and book/video information.


• By clicking on the underlined number to the left of an item in Table View, the Form View is displayed. The Form View contains additional information on this item, such as age-suitability, a review (if available), and whether or not it is checked out.


• Clicking on the Home link in the database brings you back to this page.


• You must return back to this page to change from the Title Catalogue to the Author Catalogue, and vice-versa.


• Both Catalogues contain the same information – just the presentation is different.


• When doing a Search, we recommend changing Type from "begins with" to "contains".

Title Catalogue
Items in the Title Catalogue are always sorted by Title, with all books coming before any videos.

Author Catalogue
Items in the Author's Catalogue are always sorted by the Author's last name. And if there is more than one author, the item listed under each author's last name. Again, all books come before any videos. Should you want to look at only videos (or books, or for a particular author, or just about anything else), simply do a Search and specify what you want. The results of your search are returned in Table View sorted appropriately.
