FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear fellow members of St. Denis and Our Lady of the Wayside,

In the book of Job we come across the mystery of suffering. The often mistaken understanding of suffering was that it is the result of Sin. The book of Job disproves that Job was a good man, but had to suffer. As Jesus pointed out, suffering is not a punishment for sins. It is just part of the human condition, our finiteness, the fact that we are imperfect.

The Annual Appeal for St. Denis and Our Lady of the Wayside for this year is $79,500.00.We hope to raise this amount by the end of the year.

There will be a meeting to plan the May 13, Centennial celebrations. The meeting will be on February 23, Thursday, at OLW at 6.00 pm. There were many requests from parishioners to put cushions in the pews at OLW. It will cost around $4,500.00. The redwood trees around OLW Church and Rectory need trimming and will cost $2,200.00 I would like to make a request for sponsors from OLW to take care of these two expenses.

Every three years we spend over $4,500.00 to trim the three Eucalyptus trees in front of the Church at St. Denis. To remove the trees and replace them with other trees that do not need much maintenance would cost $9,500.00. If you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions please feel free to talk to me.

Yours Sincerely,
Fr. Jose Shaji, Pastor
