Confirmation Retreat 2011

This year's Confirmation retreat theme is "Prayer." All Second Year Confirmation students are to attend.

Our speaker is Lindsey Scherer.

Lindsey Scherer is a youth minister, speaker, musician, writer, retreat leader and grad student from San Jose, California (aka "Silicon Valley" - we make your computer chips). As a cradle-convert Catholic, she experienced parochial education until high school and the fire of conversion in the RCIA process early in college. Lindsey's family experience - both positive and painful - contributed to her conversion and she credits the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles as the initial stepping stones that helped her find Christ. She began as a volunteer with her parish's Life Teen High School youth ministry from 2004 to 2009 and she has been the EDGE Middle School Youth Minister since 2005. She was also the Coordinator of Young Adult Ministry and was active in various other ministry-related activities such as Diocesan immersion trips to Mexico and San Diego, lectoring, liturgical music ministry, and her parish's stewardship committee.

Lindsey plays drums in Invitation to Grace, a music ministry born out of her parish's young adult ministry. She also plays guitar as a back up and for fun. Her love of music began in 8th Grade when she first started learning drums. In high school, Lindsey was involved in several different secular bands and wrote music. She is beginning to write songs for the Lord and His Church. ITG has played at the Walk for Life West Coast (2009-10), Santa Clara University's Wonderfully Made Women's Ministry Conference (2009), masses at Holy Family, retreats, weekly and monthly adoration prayer meetings, and is in the process of finishing their first Demo/EP.

Speaking and training are a couple of the things that Lindsey loves to do. She has spoken at a multi-diocesan faith formation conference, led a workshop at the Diocese of San Jose's annual retreat for high school students, and developed leadership workshops for middle school ministry leaders with the DSJ's Director of Youth Ministry. Lindsey has also spoken and helped facilitate youth leadership training for another parish in San Jose. Creating resources for others is also a passion for Lindsey and she has written numerous resources for youth group meetings as well as retreats including "Into the Mystery" which was published by Life Teen, Inc. in July 2009 as part of their subscription service to EDGE youth groups around the country. She has also written and directed retreats for schools in the South Bay Area and a retreat for young adults. For the past three years, Lindsey has served as a leader and facilitator for the DSJ's summer high school immersion trips to Mexico (twice) and San Diego.

Lindsey is a graduate student in the Master of Theological Studies program at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, CA. She is also a member of the National Association of Catholic Youth Ministry Leaders, the National Association for Lay Ministry and Theta Alpha Kappa: National Theology and Religious Studies Honor Society. For fun, Lindsey likes hiking, watching movies (Disney and scary movies are favorites), learning to surf, and spending time with family and friends. She hopes to travel in the future and continue pursuing ministry, music, and the Lord (always).
