Dear Parishioners,
The Gospel reading of today is about Mary's visit to her cousin Elizabeth. Mary is pregnant with Jesus and Elizabeth with John the Baptist. After Elizabeth's greeting, "Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb…" Mary breaks forth in song, we call the Magnificat. She sings, "He scatters the proud hearted, he casts down the mighty from their thrones and raises the lowly, he fills the starving with good things." This is what the Messiah came to bring about. This is also the work of every follower of Christ. If we believe that this is addressed to the rest of the world, then it becomes mere ideology. If we believe that this is addressed to each one of us then it is the beginning of a revolution, a transformation that will eventually establish the kingdom of God on earth. May all of us continue the transforming work of the Messiah.
