Third Sunday of Lent

March 7, 2010

Dear Parishioners,

In the first reading Moses comes face to face with God who reveals himself as "I am who am." But, God still remains a mystery to us. St. Thomas Aquinas wrote, "Whatever is comprehended by a finite being (that is, us) is itself finite. We will never fully understand or comprehend who God is. Mystics are moved to silence when speaking about God. The Gospel reading of today introduces us to the problem of suffering and evil. Why should good people suffer? Why should there be suffering at all? It is difficult to understand God and to come to grips with mystery of suffering. We can only fall silent. The only answer we have is the person of Jesus, the revelation of God himself who suffered and died. And, Jesus is present to us whether we are awake or asleep, whether full of joy or full of pain.

Last Saturday, 27th of February, I had a wonderful meeting with the women of Our Lady of the Wayside who do the flower arrangement every weekend. I would like to thank them for their dedicated service. They are requesting for volunteers to help them or substitute for them or to arrange flowers for a period of time. At this time I would like to also acknowledge and thank Peter Vanos who without fail donates flowers to OLW every weekend of the year. Thank you!

Yours Sincerely,
Fr. Jose Shaji, Pastor
