Second Sunday of Lent

February 28, 2010

Dear Parishioners,

The Gospel reading is about the transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor. There is the voice that came from the heavens that said, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him." The divinity of Jesus was revealed to Peter, John and James. This incident is in some ways similar to what happened to Jesus before his passion and death. We see Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane with the same disciples, Peter, John and James. Jesus prays to the Father, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done." Here we see the humanity of Jesus; Jesus is both divine and human. These incidents reveal to us our own identity, that we are not just human, made of flesh and blood, but there is a divine element in each one of us. And, that we are all destined for eternal life with God.

The Archdiocese of San Francisco is requesting a second collection every year for St. Patrick's Seminary. There will be a second collection for St. Patrick's Seminary on the weekend of March 6 & 7, 2010. Please be generous!

Last Tuesday, February 23 at 7:00 pm, there was a talk by Fr. David Pettingill. It was indeed a wonderful presentation about how we as Christians share in the priesthood of Christ. Unfortunately it was very poorly attended. Only 8 people showed up for the talk! I would like to thank those who came and participated in the event. Thank you!

Yours Sincerely,
Fr. Jose Shaji, Pastor
